Man Killed In Storm On Merritt Parkway Remembered As Loving Husband, Dad

A GoFundMe has been established to aid the family of a 25-year-old Hawthorne man who died earlier this month driving in the damaging Nor'easter.

Jonathan Rodriguez-Melendez, 25, of Hawthorne, was pronounced dead on the scene when a large tree fell on his car on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield County amid the storm.

Francisco Berdecia, 33, of Paterson was a passenger in the vehicle and was transported to Greenwich Hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Rodriguez-Melendez was a courier for FedEx Express and leaves behind his mom, Lissie Melendez, his wife and his two small children.

His wife, Lis Karlit Melendez, paid tribute to him in a Facebook post.

"It's so hard to endure this great pain that my soul carries inside. You were everything to me, you were my first and only true love," she wrote.

"You were the best father, the best husband, and the best person who could live in that cruel and unfair world. I love you so much Jonathan, if you were here I'd tell you how much I love you and how much you made me happy. You were unique and very special to everyone. We love you so much my life ."
